The days are passing…

I missed summer.  September is right around the corner and I will soon be a year older.  I honestly had this fear that I would not wake up from the first surgery on July 23rd, and then I would think how silly that was.  If I didn’t wake up how would I know the difference?   That was the day the lymph nodes were removed from the right side of my neck and the first round of radiation was put into my tongue via the wire implants.  Then the second round of radiation began 2 weeks later on August 6th.  My last surgery was on August 10th to remove the radiation ball and the wires.  I did have the good Lord holding my right hand through all of this and the prayers from my blogging friends all over the world were life sustaining.

I don’t need to worry about a wrinkled neck anymore as I have a lovely network of surgery lines.  I thank God for the fact that I am here to make mention of this.

While I was in the hospital room in the midst of the clutter, etc. I would lie in the bed and I would write blogs over and over in my head.  I so wanted to write a blog about my oncologist and I will do that soon.  He is such a kind, gentle caring man.  I thought so many times how much I would have liked for him to have been Jim’s oncologist.  I don’t know that Jim’s prognosis would have been different but at least he would have had a caring doctor.

I did want to let you all know that I am beginning to feel a bit better.  I still am not able to chew but that will happen soon I know.  I am drinking a lot of Boost, etc.  I have lost over 20 lbs. which I didn’t need to lose.

I do have 2 big red tomatoes that my s-i-l’s brother sent to me.  I have them in the refrigerator hoping they will last a couple of weeks at which time I will try a BLT.

Thank you to my new visitors.  You all have a great week.  Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  11. Hi Beth, I will pray that you get your BLT soon. It sure sounds good in this horrible hot weather. It is already in the 80's and isn't even noon yet. I wanted you to know you are in my hearts and prayers that you continue to progress. I am off to the post office and then go see hubby at the nursing home. Take care. Many hugs and prayers coming from Your Missouri Friend.

  12. Hi Beth, Thank you for this update. I have been praying for you. I would love to read about your oncologist. I know I wrote several posts about John's surgeon from last year and what a blessing he has been to my family - having operated on John and my brother. Like you, John and I had so many blog friends praying for us. It is hard to explain the gratefulness we have for folks we've never even met!
I continue to pray for you to heal and to be able to enjoy that BLT sooner than you think. You are loved!

  13. Beth- I am so happy that you are starting to feel better. I know the worst is behind you and now you just have to deal with the results of the treatment...and the fear that always lies in the back of a cancer patient's head-the fear of recurrence. Our friend, Mike, who had an almost identical surgery about 15 years ago and he is still cancer free. He said it did change his taste buds-he likes things he never ate before-and he lost some salivary glands so drinks a lot of water with his food. Small enough price to pay to be cancer free all these years.
God bless you-you are still in my prayers. There were more well wishes for you on my blog after you visited if you want to pop over and read them.
Hope you have a wonderful, bright Monday- xo Diana

  21. I am so glad to hear you are feeling some better. Whew...I know it hasn't been easy and uneasy days to come but you are hanging in there, for which I am thankful.
Summer has come and gone so fast, I can't believe it. I am hanging onto summer with everything I've got. Here in West Texas, we should have another month at least of hot, nice weather.
    Love to you....

  29. Good to get a message from you. I'm happy to hear you are feeling a little better. That is good news. Did you know that you can mix anything in a blender and be able to eat it even through a straw? My niece had an accident a couple of weeks ago, falling while jogging. After surgery her jaw is wired shut. The doctor told her that one of his patients even blended meatloaf and potatoes and was able to eat them. A friend of mine suggested spaghetti for Erin. Just a suggestion and I hope it is helpful. I pray for your continued improvement and I'm sure all of your friends are still praying too. Hugs! Bertie

Just please take it as slowly as it needs. I know you probably think...well of course! We just all care and don't really know what to say....or how to say it! The feeling is there though! Joan
