Saturday…

and I am up bright and early again.  The weather forecast for today through Monday is miserable and my early Christmas plans have been put on hold for a week.  First rain, then snow, then bitter cold.  To be even worse in the Chicago area.  Such is winter time in Illinois and as old as I am you would think I would be used to it by now.  I am used to it, but that doesn’t ease the disappointment.  The lemon cream cheese bars are now in the freezer too.

So what will I do today?  I could do a bit more shopping but I have already spent way too much so I had better forget that.  I would like to make some frosted sugar cookies but those do not keep well so I think that will wait for a few days.  I can always find laundry to do but that can wait too.  Yesterday I got the vacuum out and cleaned, so that is done.  I even did the dreaded bathroom cleaning a couple of days ago.  Well, I do have several Bones episodes recorded on the DVR so I can watch those.  I love that show.  One of the best things about DVR recording is that you can fast forward through the commercials.  There is about 44 minutes left of a one hour show after you remove the commercials.

An update on Angel in WV.  Her bones are healing and the cause of the crash is undetermined yet.  Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I am still searching for free e-books on the internet.  Most of the free ones are just samples which to my way of thinking isn’t worth the download.  Some of the sites want you to register and pay a fee to get free books.  How is that for being free?

My favorite all time Christmas song is Hark the Herald Angels Sing and my favorite performer of this song is Neil Diamond.

I will leave you with this and go fix me some breakfast.  Cheerios, banana and milk.  I hope you all are having a good day.

Red heart  Beth

  1. Wow! I'm the first to comment! Here are a couple free book sites I had bookmarked.

    http://manybooks.net/ & http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

Hope you can find some good ones at either of these places.

Just starting to turn ugly here. It sounds like we're in for some truly winter weather in the next few days. Take care Beth.

  2. Well, darn. I was looking forward to coming over there today and eating you out of house and home.
Oh, recording and watching later is great, isn't it! I've done that forever and love fast forwarding through all the junk. My neighbors have a TIVO and tell me that's the way to go, but that gizmo is expensive PLUS you have to pay for the service. Paying for tv now is expensive enough, so I think I can pry myself off the chair to pop in a tape. My next wish is for a DVR so I can get away from the tapes and put the recording on re-recordable dvds.
Oh, and ck out another site I'm adding to Cindy's: http://www.feedbooks.com/ I use the free sites all the time.
Ok, Beth, I'm going to join you in cup of coffee now. Haven't had mine yet :)
Love from me to you XOXOXO

  3. Free books! Well, there is the local library...
I so don't watch "Bones", not because it isn't pretty good, but because there is always some gross and stomach-turning close-up of human remains - same problem with the NCIS & CSI shows. I don't do innards. Especially rotted, maggot-filled ones. Just a weird fillip of mine. I have had about 3 weeks of California weather - mostly about 60 degrees, but I am headed home to WNY on Tuesday where I guess I'll catch up on the colder end of things...

  4. Like the Diamond version of HARK! Of course, like MOST of Diamond's songs. No, those are NOT free books---David is right, the Library is the best for really FREE books. I frequent a used-book store where I can turn in my books after buying them at a discount and get credit to buy others---that way I only spend about $1-$2 per book. Sounds like your weather is beyond chilly. Foggy here this morning but promises to be sunny later. We'll have to see about that...

  5. @ for Jenny. I am so bored today I have just put a homemade peach pie in the oven.
@ for David. I close my eyes when the gross scenes come on. lol

  6. @ for Sue. The library is downtown where the dreaded one way streets are, plus my brother gifted me with the Nook so I have to use it.

  7. It's cloudy, cold here and snow showers tomorrow the guessers say, who knows. Be safe out there and enjoy baking. That's what I need to do. I need to vacuum too and clear clutter....ugh

  8. Windy and cold rain/snow pellets enough to freeze doors! I hate that. Cindy and Jenny gave great links, I use those myself. Pie sounds good! Good day to bake. Keep busy but inside out of the cold.

  10. Our forecast is much the same and I'm not happy about that. We're supposed to leave for mom's Monday afternoon but may not get out before Tuesday if the weather guessers are right. Each time I check the NOAA site the chance of snow and blowing snow Monday increases. While VDOT has plenty of equipment for clearing roads and our entire trip will be on major highways my idea of a good trip is NOT following a snow plow for the first 200 miles!

  11. We have rain starting soon and then turning to snow. Here, only a few inches..the mountains. another story entirely.

I know what weather does to travel plans. Year before last, I could not get across the mountains. There was always snow within a day of my trip going, staying or coming home... either in NC, over the mountains or here. All three sometimes. Bummer.

  12. It's a good time to stay in and catch up on Bones and other tv. I like that show too. Can't do much about the weather. Just wait it out. Don't have a dvr so if I miss something just wait for a rerun or USA marathon on the shows, lol. Cable is too high now and everything they want you to add they charge extra for it.

Happy to hear Angel is doing much better. Continues prayers.

  13. Hi Beth,
Sorry you are getting horrible weather now. It was so cold here earlier in the week and we had snow, frost, all sorts. However today has been quite sunny and mild, but we are told cold cold weather will return in the coming week. That I can cope with, it is just snow and slippery surfaces that floor me (no pun intended). I had a short chat with Kerrie today and she told me she is having trouble getting onto your blog, so would I tell you that she is checking her mailbox regularly, but as yet your parcel has not turned up. (what a shame I am sorry) I am late posting my Christmas cards, hope to get one off to you on Monday. take care, hugs - Nita.

  16. I have a friend with a Kindel and she hasn't been all that happy with it. There are limits and you know for me personally I still prefer a real book in my hands though maybe in the future I'll change with the times. We have a freezing rain advisory today so it's pretty miserable. I guess the melting over the last few days is now in danger of being swept away.
